Beginning in 2013, CIT and Waterside received support from Arts Council England to develop a series of theatre commissions for independent theatre-makers to create new work for Waterside's Chambers space.7

Six theatre-makers have now taken part in the scheme, receiving mentoring along with rehearsal space, technical and marketing support in the development of their work.

The project is aimed towards early-stage theatre makers and has seen a number of its participants go on to tour work across the UK. Productions created through the scheme include:

• The Man Who Woke Up Dead - Square Peg Theatre
• White Lies - Nick Birchill
• Beautiful Warmth - Checked Shirt Theatre
• What's The Matter With You? - Mighty Heart Theatre
• The House at the Edge of the Universe - Four Shadows Theatre
• Swear School - Thick Richard
