I Fall Back Asleep When I Dream of You, Holly Staniforth

Gallery 74, 17 Sep 21 – 06 Nov 21

Sourcing images from her personal collection and other assorted web-based archives, Holly Staniforth digitally combines these disparate visual elements to build a florescent dreamscape; a space where the imagination takes over and the usual conventions of the photographic image melt away.

By layering earlier archive material from the 20th Century with contemporary photographs and lacing the resulting image with neon hues, the work simultaneously points to a surrealist past and to a hyperreal digital present.

All the pieces in the exhibition are printed using a Risograph press;  a 20th century printing technology that further emphasises the retro-futuristic aesthetics at play.
