Programme
A mix of practical advice and thought-provoking discussion.
Panel: Sorting Fact from Fiction
In this era of fake news, anti-vaccination campaigns and climate change denial, the panel looks at how artists and scientists can work together to restore trust and faith in the science that affects our health and the state of our planet.
Guests: Nick Jordan (artist) and Professor Ric Williams (Univ of Liverpool, Ocean Sciences).
Talk: Developing SciArt Projects
Richard Evans (producer at Cold Star Media) gives a practical guide looking at developing art-science projects - how artists and scientists can find each other and sources of funding. Richard has a successful track record in raising funds from a range of sources including Arts Council England, the Wellcome Trust, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, National Lottery Fund for Heritage and Creative UK. The talk will also offer advice on developing successful and long-lasting collaborations.
Panel: SciArt for Health & Wellbeing
Creativity is an important component of health & wellbeing projects, helping to explore medical issues that can be extremely sensitive for those involved. This discussion looks at best practice for such projects and how artists and scientists can work together to devise projects that support and enrich the lives of participants.
Guests: Dr Helen Foster (researcher, Otherhood Arts). Professor Ramona Moldovan (NHS Genetic Counsellor, Rare/D group); Deborah Pakkar-Hull (theatre maker, Otherhood Arts).
Panel: Brave New Worlds
Pioneering developments in fields including artificial intelligence and gene editing have long been a source of inspiration for artists and writers. What are the latest world-changing scientific discoveries that could make or break the future? The panel looks at the science that could inspire and transform us in the coming years.
Guests: Aisling Davis (Multi-disciplinary artist), Jason Parr (Centre for Genetic Medicine, Uni of Manchester), Chris Wright (executive producer, FutureEverything).
Ideas Exchange
This is an informal networking space for artists, scientists and organisations with each other and share their reflections at the end of the day.
